okay - so where might this go in a module - in the pageload or what ?

Hi, sorry... yes it should be in PageLoad, you need to have:

                If AJAX.IsInstalled Then
                    AJAX.RegisterScriptManager()
                    AJAX.RegisterPostBackControl(btnUpdate) ' register btnUpdate as a full (non ajax) postback control
                End If

You will also need to have:

Imports DotNetNuke.Framework
