I have a MS Serevr 2003 running from my home which is hosting my experimental DNN 4.5.1 site.

I am using http://www.dyndns.com/ to resolve my public IP to my site at http://67.162.72.100

While trying to set up the SMTP I am running into problems. I am inexperienced at configuring servers but I think I have two choices:

#1 - Configure SMTP on the server itself (which I think I have done), and somehow create a email address to map back to my server (No idea how to do this but am interested in trying), then use this email address as my Host Email

#2 - I think I see that it is possible to configure the host and admin Email address to my gmail address, and then configure SMTP to point to gmail. When I try this I get:

  SMTP Server Settings

  Test
The SMTP server requires a secure connection or the client was not authenticated. The server response was: 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first 6sm12785986nzn

My GMAIL Address

Can anyyone guide me in how I can get this to work?

Tigris7,

Try setting your port to 465 for Gmail...smtp.gmail.com:465

Thanks for your response. I tried your suggestion but just got a 'Request Timed Out' response.

However, I did point to my ISP smtp server instead, and now all is well. 'Preciate your efforts.

@baldwin

To use your ISP's mail server enter in thier SMTP server and use any user/pass combo they tell you to use.
