I've worked with DNN a little before 4.5 came out, I understood how to set that up, but now I am relearning with 4.5.x.

I'm right now working on a dev server -- Win2k3, SQL, VWD Express.

1. Do I need to install Visual Basic Express even if I'm not going to make any modules?? Or do I need it if I will change any ascx files, etc.??

2. I have to get this site up and running pretty soon -- when I set it up on the shared hosting (not a DNN provider though) can I put DNN into the root of my shared hosting web server even if DNN is not in the root in my dev server??

Thank you, Tom

1) no, even if you want to modify .ascx files you do not need vb.net (only, if modifying the vb files included in source package)

2) yes, though some of the image links might fail, if they are using reference from site's source folder (e.g. /mydnn/images/safe.gif)
