I believe this is a pretty unfair description of what is going on with the Forum.

I agree that is is probably unfair, but unforunately it is the perception.     The problem with this and other DNN projects is that communication about the status of things is infrequent at best and sometime very confusing.   Someone shouldn't have to dig through forum posts to see if a project is actually released or not or if it's going to be any time soon.

For example, if you go to the forum project home page, the big section at the top entitled "Forum 4.4.0" gives the impression that the new version is either out or will be very soon furthermore, the last blog post with any information about the release of the new forum version is almost 2 months old.

I know that people are involved in enhancements and bug fixes and that Chris and the team have been busting thier butts to get this thing out the door and I'm not trying to deny them credit for all of that hard work (which I very much appreciate).   I'm just saying that a little bit better communication would go a long way.

I would also say that this is a "DNN" problem and not just a forum project problem.   There are several projects (Chat for instance) that haven't been updated in forever and their real status is completely unknown for those of us out of the loop.

In my opinion, projects leaders should strive to (or even be required to) make at least one short blog post every 2 weeks that outlines the status of the project.   This would GREATLY improve communication from a DNN project standpoint.

Just my 2 cents. and again, I appreciate all of the hard work that I know the team is doing.

I believe when a project is released it is blabbed in the Project home and the DNN home page.  I don't believe I've seen something released with no obvious notification of that fact.  We do not need to make notifications that something is still NOT released.  So, next time you're curions, simply go to the homepage.  I can guarantee you that when the forum is released it will be on the home page...

I understand about the blog comment - there are "Project Leaders" that have never blogged and others that blogged so long ago, you wonder if they are even alive.... but you can't pin this on Chris - aside from a pretty good blog, he has a project beta site that is open to public inspection:  www.dnnforums.com    Between that and various on-line docs sites, I think this project is doing pretty well.

I don't know why you would get the impression that something is released just because you see the phrase "Forum 4.4.0"on the home page.  As soon as you read the text, its pretty obvious it's not.  It seems contradictory to complain about not enough communication and then point to that page.

But in the end, it's been stated by numerous offical DNN members and on numerous occassions, that there is NO release date - that it will take as long as it takes.  As a very active team member, I'm frustrated too, but we all have to live with this. It's not in our control.

What *is* in our control, is our ability to participate in development and testing.

Rob,

Any word on the project to start "dog fooding" the new forum module?  It seems as though Chris and Scott are working on a migration strategy.  Any word on how that is going?  Anything that we as the community can do to help get the project moving?  Just asking since the release tracker hasn't moved much, and their hasn't been any real news on dnnforums in awhile.

I know that we have to wait for the core team to move, any ideas how to provide alittle motivation in that area?

Do you use Oracle?  Then try GoldFish.Net

All I can say is what other have already said:  a security audit is progress, things are going well but becasue of the nature of this release (ie: huge), that it is taking quite a long time.

Unfortunately, a security audit is not a community process.  Motivation?  I'm not sure...  I think those involved are fairly motivated!

Cheers!
