I've seen some people say that they've installed DNN into the root of a website easily, but I've not found a single instance (searching the better part of today) that shows how.

I'm most interested in Windows Server 2003 and SQL 2005 Server (VPS). Currently, I get a 403, so I know it has SOMETHING to do with permissions - I just can't figure it out.

Thanks in advance,

Brad

Any takers?

Maybe I should say that all I'm trying to avoid is www.domain.com/dotnetnuke. I see examples showing the child portals being the first virtual directory. Am I just missing something?

In windows 2003 IIS, just setup a new web site (not virtual directory) and assign the IP of the domain or the domain name as host header. Now install DNN as usual into the physical directory, your web site is pointing to.

Thanks for your reply Sebastian,

I was able to install this on my WinXP test box in the root, and relatively easily (after I set the permissions and reinstall .NET).

But I'm still having the problem on my server. It is a x64 virtual machine and looks to have .NET 1.1, .NET 2.0 and .NET 2.0 (32 bit). I also don't see a property tab to choose the version of .NET for my application. No matter what combination of .NET extentions I have allowed, it doesn't work. I still get a 403 error (forbidden). I reinstalled the 64-bit version of .NET, but I can't figure out how to conclusively get rid of the 32-bit version.

Any ideas? Brad

Have you registered ASP.NET 2.0 on your server using the aspnet_regiis.exe -i command?
