I'm trying to install dotnetnuke 4.05.03 in a virtual windows XP machine running SQL server 2005.

since I don't really need all the development stuff first I just used the intall zip file. That failed with not being able to find the HTML folder in the app_code directory after I got the "install wizard" to run and the site retstarted.

Ok, no problem - I downloaded the whole shebang and tried to run that.

That failed with a SQL error - 4.4.0 database, got an error converting "ERROR see C:\dotnetnukewebsitepr" to type integer.

I'm starting not to feel warm and fuzzy about DNN any more.

I'm sorta commited to use DNN for this project so if anybody has any suggestions I'm interested.

Thanks -

The error was the database configuration  in the install wizard.

Doing the whole thing again. Configure the the database in the web.config file and start the install again and use the option 'auto' (takes the preconfiged database connection)

good luck!

If you need assistance to install without the wizard, I have an install document that covers the entire process on my blog site.  it is written towards 4.4.1 but the process is the same for 4.5.3.

http://www.mitchelsellers.com -> Blogs -> Search -> "DotNetNuke Install"  (I can't get to my site from my current location otherwise I would link it for you!)

Mitchel

Just want to say thanks for the blog and your support in the community -- just installed 4.5.3 based on your instructions - I bumped into a couple of things that were my fault -- but otherwise all went well..

recap:

database setup was straightforward as were the web.config changes.

make sure asp.net version is correct within IIS

In IIS application settings - make sure its running as an application. I didn't - install failed.

Make sure the network service or aspnet accounts have read/write/modify on the root directory and ensure that the rights are propagated down. I had to manually propagate - not sure why but it worked afterwards.

All is well.
