Chris or anyone else...

I have a client request to essentially modify the existing DNN forums version to change it to a separate module.  IE change it but ensure that the core module could exist on it's own.

Now, my understanding is that I would have to do the following.

1.  Update ALL SQL Data Provider scripts to change the table and stored procedure prefixes to a new prefix
2.  Update the assembly name and all internal namespaces
3.  Update the .DNN file with all items

I have an idea of how complex this is, but am I missing anything obvious?  Also any estimates on time needed to do this?

Your solution make sense only if you want to keep (under the same instance) the original forum module + you modified forum module. I you wont mix both versions, you can apply all your changes directly (mdified version).

Regards,

Alfonso.

Yes Alfonso you are correct.  My clients needs are to have both a modified forums version and a standard forums version on the same DNN install.

So, you are in the hardest scenario... Looks like your approach is OK, however I will keep the eyes in those required modules, such as Gallery. In that case your modified module can be negative impacted by any modification of the external module (gallery). If I were you, I will try to make a new forum module, assuming that you requiere a reduce functionalily of the current version + special features no presented in the module.

Good luck in your endavour

Alfonso

Yes it is a tough issue...their functionality changes are somewhat small, however they are on a system that is shared with other individuals.
