We recently experienced a very odd bug wih 4.5.3. The admin user for one of our portals 'spontaneously' lost the ability to 'Edit text' in Text/HTML module. The edit text function was no longer available in the drop down menu

I managed to resolve the problem by removing the following xml element from the profile table, profiledata field for the admin user.

<item key="Usability:ContentVisible0" type="System.String, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"><string>False</string></item>

What I don't understand is how this came to be set. There is no information in the forums on this feature and there doesn't appear to be an admin setting that would allow a user to make this change.

Anyone know what this is and how it can be set?

If a user has edit permission to a module on a page then they should see a slim "Mode" bar at the top of the page with that module.

You can switch the mode between view and edit, and it gets stored in that location in the DB.

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately the problem was occuring across all modules on all pages in edit mode (not view mode). Also, the problem was occuring for the admin user who presumably should always have edit access.

Once the setting was written to the DB it seemed impossible to unset it.

After looking at your original post closer, it appears that the user was in Design mode.

You can switch that in the Page Fuctions area of the control panel.
