I thought I had a successful install Version 4.x but got the following message when trying to load from a browser.

Error Installing DotNetNuke

Current Assembly Version: 04.00.02

ERROR: Could not connect to database specified in connectionString for SqlDataProviderSystem.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'ITGEORGE\ASPNET'. at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionPool.GetConnection(DbConnection owningObject) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionFactory.GetConnection(DbConnection owningConnection) at System.Data.ProviderBase.DbConnectionClosed.OpenConnection(DbConnection outerConnection, DbConnectionFactory connectionFactory) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.Open() at Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data.SqlHelper.ExecuteNonQuery(String connectionString, CommandType commandType, String commandText, SqlParameter[] commandParameters) at Microsoft... blah blah blah

I checked user permissions and set them as I have them for other web applications I created. Repeatly got the message above. I retried Ctrl F5 from the Welcome page through VWD and once again it says I was successful.  I got the message below this time when trying to load from browser.

DotNetNuke Upgrade Error

The Assembly Version ( [ASSEMBLYVERSION] ) does not match the Database Version ( [DATABASEVERSION] )

ERROR: Could not connect to database.

Login failed for user 'ITGEORGE\ASPNET'

I had the same problem at first. I found that I had not correctly edited the web.config file. Make sure you comment out the connections that you are NOT using i.e. comment the two sections for SQLExpress if you're using the full version.

That's a good idea.  With some items, if you have more than one entry in the web.config file, you'll overwrite the old setting and with some items, you'll just blow up.

However, I'm not exactly sure that's his problem though because (it seems) his connection string is as he wants it to be

I would recommend checking out the settings on SQL Server just to make sure the ASPNET user has the right permissions.

Thanks, sdavey999

I removed reference to Sql Server 2005 from my web.config.  Now I get a config error below.  I have not been able to find the solution to this error. Any help would be appreciated.

George

I think I know the problem... look at what's right after your "add" (on line 26): its "-->".  Try removing that.
