I am trying to set up an intranet using DNN4 (XP Pro, IIS5, SqlServer2000), and have finally got it going. I struggled to find any helpful doco, but muddled thru. So for anyone trying to do the same, here's what I did:

  • Using out of the box Authentication (forms), logged on as admin.
  • Went into Admin | Authentication area.
  • Selected "Windows Authentication" and "Syncronisation" and put in my root domain (alread had email domain).
  • Leaving the above open, edited web.config, found the "<authentication mode=" under <System.web>, commented out Forms and uncommented out the windows authent.
  • Back to the DNN site and clicked update.
  • This worked, but gave me the "You do not have access to view this tab within the portal" message. This is because it just logged me on as my domain logon, which doesn't have the admin role. So...
  • Undid the web.config changes and reopened the site and logged on as admin again.
  • Got into users and noted that my domain logon had been added. Clicked for properties, clicked "Manage Roles", and added administration role.
  • Closed the site, reapplied the web.config changes, then reopened the site.
  • There you have it, you are authenticated and automatically logged on.

The trouble is, you then can't log off! That means you see the site in Admin mode all the time, which wont work in a live situation (at least, it wont for me).

Has anyone done something similar to this? Am I missing something? Can anyone point me to some definitive doco?

Cheers

Alec

I am having the same problem - exactly. If you come up with anything let me know, and I'll do the same.

Yeah, I work for a college as an IT Tech and am having to create an 'extranet' style page i.e. providing an inward facing glance upon our network content for users who are unauthorized at first but by the end become registered and receiving access to the content page but at the same time no longer being able to see the original login module page as they are no longer unauthenticated users.  Ive gotten close but get the same messages as you guys are getting:  You do not have access to view this tab within the portal.  I bought the book DNN for dummies and there is a bit in it about this problem (I think) if I get this figured I'll re-post.
