i want to be able to upload mpeg or avi files into a new blog entry.  when i try doing it through the "upload image" icon of the text editor, it never completes.  should this work or is there another way?  i don't want to use a different mod for movies.  i need this function in thew blog mod itself.

You might have to change the length before time out of your web.config file.

By default you will see code that is in the web.config that has  <!-- allow large file uploads -->

I have changed this on a site - to read like this -

  <!-- allow large file uploads -->
  <httpRuntime useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl="true" maxRequestLength="100240" executionTimeout="12000" />

See if that doesn't make a difference.

The other alternative which I'm working with at the moment on another site - is the client has a large video - 26 minutes in fact,and they have a third party account where they copy in code, sort of like a utube thing and it shows the file, it allows them to show in html editor.
