Hi,

I've been searching the web for information on how to duplicate or mirror a DNN site, but have found nothing. Maybe I'm using the wrong search phrases I don't know.

We're situated in South Africa, and have a dedicated server in US hosting our DNN site. US and European users have no problem regarding the overall speed and performance of our site. Connecting to the site from South Africa is very slow. It is so slow that I can hardly get any work done on the site.

Is it possible to set up a mirrored DNN site locally (in SA)? I don't want a "copy" of the US site, I literally want it mirrored in such a way that even if one server was to fail, all the users could connect to the mirror site without them even knowing it.

Any information would be most welcome.

Regards

Julian

It's definitely possible, and you might be able to use some of the webfarm support built into DNN. I personally haven't used any of it, I got out of the hardware business long ago, after trying to setup replication and routers and firewalls for running sites out of two different cities. I leave that to the guys who know what they're doing :D

Hi,

Thanks Chris, I'll definately give it a try, I've downloaded the official DNN pdf. for web farm support. Are there any other resources I can refer to? tutorials, documentation, etc. ?

Regards

Julian

Julian,

I have 2 clients that run DNN in a 'Web Farm' environment. That said, Ido not subscribe to the DNN supported UNC type setup. I use a version of the alternative method explained in the documentation. The reason I do so is to avoid a single point of failure. In the supported model, should the file server go down, you're lights-out until it's brought back online. Replicating files between your web servers assures that each webserver has identical files/data.

However, I have never set-up an "off-site farm", the challanges sound interesting. What are your WAN topology plans?

HTH your decision..

Hi

well I haven't really sat down and documented anything with regards to topology. This was not the direction we were heading in when we started develpment. Only after noticing the mind numbing slowness of our site, had we decided to have it mirrored locally. Worst case scenario we'll end up with different URL's for the respective sites, wich is fine, as long as the sites are a perfect mirror of each other.
