Hi

I was asked by a client to look into installing and managing a CMS for a Win2K machine and found DNN. I have downloaded and installed it on a local machine, and now my client wants to "go live" with it - on a shared hosting platform (who do say that it can be installed and run from their machines - but I am not too sure).

However I cannot get it to run on the shared hosting platform, and have posted messages here asking for help - but without response. I have also invested in Daniel Egans book (VB.NET and DotNetNuke 3.0) in an attempt to learn a bit more about it. But I do not know enough about it myself to be confident that I can support my client.

If the final option is to pay for support then I can factor that into my costings.

Is anybody out there in a position to help me, or my client - and maybe do a bit of troubleshooting ?

I am in Leeds, in the UK, if that inspires.prevents anybody from contacting me.

Many thanks - in advance

Tony Moran

Is there a particular reason to use whichever hosting company you are having trouble with?  There are plenty of hosting companies that specifically host DotNetNuke and provide pretty decent support.

if you're based in the UK,and looking to work with an ISP that you can speak to in your own timezone, pipex may be a good hosting option (though IMHO most of the US based hosts are fine and provide quick turnaround on queries via email e.g. webhost4life). If you're just confused about moving from dev to production, this gives some good advice.

There is no problem hosting DNN in a shared hosting environment that is prorerly set up.  I'm currentlly running 3 sites and a couple of child portals on brinkster in the US with out a problem.  The only thing you need to watch for is that they give you the proper privilages for IUSER_<username> for your webroot.  And probably dont go with a host that offers DNN pre-installed as you will have no control over what versions are running.

Webhost4life are great for nuke hosting. They're really affordable. If anything I'd be willing to pay more if I could get better download speeds from their servers - sometimes they seem slow
