I'm a novice on dnn so any help would be appreciated.  I have a site www.example.com/portal   I would like to rename the site to www.newsite.com .  Is there an easy way to change the name and keep all of the old content?  Will the name change affect the child portals as well?  Thanks

Child portals are an extension of the domain name, so they would be affected by a "rename".  However, all you may be really looking for is to add a domain to your list of Portal Aliases (http://www.dotnetnuke.com/About/DotNetNukeOnlineHelp/tabid/787/TID/1393/cid/112/Default.aspx).

As long as DNS can resolve a domain name to your DNN site, you can instruct DNN to work under that name by adding it to the Portal Alias list.  This works for all kinds of naming including handy references like "localhost", IP addresses, etc.  If a request reaches your site that has no corresponding Portal Alias entry, it will default to the first listed domain name.

Cheers
