When I attempt to install v04.05.03 on Windows Server 2003 R2 the installation wizard passes al the checks for file permissions and databse connectivity and then hangs forever with this message...

Installing Database - Version 4.4.0...Upgrading Database to Version ERROR: See C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\dotnetnuke\Providers\DataProviders\SqlDataProvider\04.04.00.log for more information...FAILURE 400 - Conversion from string "ERROR: See C:Inetpubwwwrootdotne" to type 'Integer' is not valid.

BTW:  It's a SQLEXPRESS DB but SQL authentication only works if the SQLSERVER 2000/2005 radio button selected...

No worries, I got through the installation finally (after some more searching on the forum) :))  The detail that did it for me was the SQLExpress Server Collation,  It has to be case insensitive (CI).  Several other posters describe that if your server collation is Case Sensitive  you need to unistall and reinstall the SQLExpress Engine and set the collation during install.  So I did it and Viola!  The DNN 4.5.3 install wizard is really nice BTW.

OK, yes I'm a bit of a NOOB with the installation, but the instructions could use some clarification (IMHO).

The installation that gave me trouble was a Windows Server 2003 R2 OS (IIS6) and the most recent SQL Server 2005 Express Edition with Advanced Services SP2 from the MSDN site.  This SQL version apparently has a default collation of CS.  Interestingly enough, I checked the installation on my dev system (the SQL Server 2005 Express Edition that is included in the VS2005 Professional Installation) and it has a CI collation.

Next up:  Configuring IIS7 on Vista...

I got the same error message, but on a hosting server. Does anyone have other solutions for this problem if admin of hosting server don't agree to re-install MS SQLServer?

Although I'm not sure (experts please correct me if not), you may be able to build the portal on a local box and then copy it over to the hosting server and attach the populated DB rather than trying to build it there.
