We just ran in to the same situation and found that we were able to add the embed tag within the object tag when editing the text/html in the Basic Text Box mode NOT the Rich Text Editor mode.

When adding the embed tag to the text/html in the Rich Text Editor mode and selecting the Update button the embed tag is removed. So my guess would be that it must be somewhere in the Rich Text Editor mode that is removing the embed tags.

No offense, but I think my previous post was the news about this and fairly straight to the point. The security filter is stripping this out, not the module.

Any word on this?  -  I think this is the same thing thats happening in the repository module.. after embedding a tag and clicking upload it disappears "poof"

Please read this part from my previous post where I say its the core, there is no fix for this.
