Hi all,

Can i configure DNN in such a way that  a child portal has it's own top level domain or do i need a seperate database for each top level domain and install it as a parent portal?

Parent:  www. parent. com

Child: www. child. com

Thanks in advance,

Marc

If each of your portals will have a domain only and the site will be installed on the root, you only need 1 DNN installation.

For example I am running the following configuration.

My DNN installation is done on http://www.icgportals.com.  I then have http://www.mitchelsellers.com, http://www.freedotnetnukestuff.com and http://www.margotfoster.com all pointed to the ICGPortals.com IP address and the entire thing runs off of 1 database.

Mitchel,

So if my second domain (child portal) is forwarded to the ip of the parent, i only have to put in a portal alias in DNN to get things working?

Hi,

I'd better install it as a regular portal instead of a child portal.

On dnncreative is a good explanation of when to use what.

Cheers,

Marc

Hi Marc,

Yes you are correct if they are different domain names they would need to be "parent portals" to ensure the best functionality!
