Hello, I'm going to be purchasing a server this week:

Xeon 5310 Clovertown
4 GB RAM
4x500 GB HDD
Windows 2003 R2 (64bit)
SQL Server Express 2005

and will be using Dot Net Nuke on it both for myself and will be offering hosting as well. I'm wondering what control panel is the best for Dot Net Nuke? Right now I have the following control panels and was wondering what people's experience here has been?

Plesk 8.1
Ensim
Helm 4
Dot Net Panel 2.1

So what does everyone here think? If they had a choice what control panel would be the best to use with DNN? I'm particularly interested in the ability to upgrade the existing versions of DNN or if there's an easy way to do that? Thanks.

i only have experience with plesk, and did not find it up to par for DNN hosting for 2 reasons:

  • no support for multiple domains on one hosting instance (only alias domains are supported, which is not what you want)
  • no ability to give asp.net identity modify rights in the webroot directory of sites

I did buy plesk when i started hosting myself, however, i never use it anymore..... It did come with free licenses to smartertools (mail, stats and tickets), smartermail and smarterstats are great tools.

btw: plesk will also install instances of apache and mysql, you might not want those to hang around on your server.....

Right now, i just use terminal server to manage all sites, users get either a DNN portal or a full DNN installation, for either of which they really don't need a control panel. Smartermail gives enough power to them to manage their mail domain completely....

I use DotNetPanel, i find it very good for managing Windows 2003 and IIS.

It use asp.net and SQL Server Express 2005. The same needs as DotNetNuke.

It have only a windows version , that the limitation, but also why it is best suited to manage IIS and windows server.

You receive also a free 50 domains SmarterMail and SmarterStat bundel with is very nise to begin
