Hello,

I was just wondering if anyone knew if there was a theoretical limitation to how many users can belong to a single dotnetnuke installation?  I'm looking for a number like 1 million users, 10 million users, 1 Billion users, etc.  Or is it unlimited?  I'm not looking for simultaneous users or anything like that, just the system limitation for total number of users that can join that single instance of the portal.   I'm thinking it's related to the maximum number for the ID field of the user which is an integer.

Thanks.

The dotnetnuke.com site itself has almost 450,000 users. I also know of a few other sites that have massive numbers of users (in the millions), but can't give any more details due to non-disclose agreements. The theoretical maximum is the field size of and int32 (integer), which is 2,147,483,647

Hi Cathal,

Thanks for the quick reply.  So are you saying that the theoretical maximum number of users allowed is limited to 2,147,483,647 users?

Thanks

yes, as that's the maximum size of the field for storage. You could alter the field type and any related code/stored procedures to a larger type such as bigint, but realistically I suspect 2 billion users is enoigh for most sites :)

Is there a more current statistic on this topic?

We are anticipating 20 million users on a portal by the end of 2013.

Thanks!
