Fixed it!

I think this is a case when a developer just forgets how it is to use his creation LOL, to put him/herself in the user's shoes.

In Site settings there is a combo box for "User Home Page" which pardon if I misinterpret it, but when I saw that I thought I want that registered users get sent to that page when they log in. So I set it to the main page. So I thought, hum, maybe I should think this means something else and changed it to "Nothing Selected" and voilá! now when I click on Registration I am taken to a registration page!

I think this is a horrible misnomer.

oops, AFAIR register page is set in Admin :: User Accounts, when you select the "User Settings" action at the bottom (sorry for that name)

Hum, I spoke too soon.

The "fix" actually allows me to register but I did not find it where you said, in 4.05 is found at Admin|Site Settings under Advanced Settings| Page Management by setting the User Page to <None Specified>. Like I said, completely misleading label.

So yes, now I get the registration page. My security settings are set for "Verified". I managed to register a regular account for myself and it said "An email has been sent to your account with a registration code. You will need it the first time you log in".

I did receive the registration email but in there the contents are merely a plain text file with the profile data I entered (email, name, country, etc.) but there is no confirmation code.

As a result I cannot log in with my new account because a) the registration code was not sent in the confirmation email and b) there is no way to request the confirmation code to be resent
