I've got SQL Server 2005 Developer edition on a Vista machine and for the life of me I can't figure out how to create a database.  I've used Enterprise Manager in the old version but that's not on here.  There is some talk of SQL Manager or something but I'm not sure where that .exe file is to run or if it's in Visual Studio.  I've looked around in VS and I see the Server Explorer but don't see how to create a new database so that I can get a connection string to put in the web.config to get DNN installed.  I know this is a SQL question but if someone can put me out of my misery I'd sure appreciate it.

you can use SQL management studio, that should have been installed with your SQL server or can be downloaded from Microsoft.com (Express Version)

I've seen that referred to but I'm not sure how to open it up.  My box had SQL Server 2005 Express on it when I bought it.  I then installed SQL Server 2005 Developer on the machine but I can't find the Mgmt Studio software.  I'm probably not looking in the right place.  I was able to create a database (it seems) through VS 2005 and now I'm trying to figure out where to give SQL user permissions.  I like the integration with VS2005 but the removal of Enterprise Manager has left me groping.

How are people finding SSMS?  I look through all the folders and I can't find it.  Where is this file to launch?

There is a good possiblity that you do not have it installed on your machine. It is an option you need to select when installing MSSQL Express. If you have it, it should be found here: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\Binn\VSShell\Common7\IDE\ssmsee.exe" taken directly from my shortcut. If you do not have it installed you just run the SQL Express setup file found here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/download/ and it will ask you what you would like to install having SQL Server Management Studio Express as an option.

Good luck,

Mike
