We installed DNN 4.0.1 on our webserver with the kind support of our provider (WebHost4Life), but it isn't possible to upload new skins and the application is extereme slow. The company that has developed the skin for us tells that the version 4.0.1 is buggy and doesn't work well at all. They recommand us to install 3.2.2. WH4L doesn't support the installation of 3.2.2. How can we do it best? Deleting whole the application and making a brand new one? What about the database? Or is it possible to downgrade the application to 3.2.2 any how? We really don't know what to do and would be greatful for any advice.

Thanks in advance!

Ariane

Well, I think your skinning company is mistaken .  DotNetNuke 3.2 and 4.0 are functionally identical.  The only difference is the ASP.NET version they use.

About DNN running slow, that's because you're using WH4L.  The reason they're so cheap is because they load up so many sites per box (which makes everything slow).  If your looking for good speed, I'd really recommend checking out www.PowerDNN.com .  They're more expensive than WHFL, but their service and speed are definately worth it.

WebHost4Life has a way to install both DNN 3.2 and 4.0.1.  The install for 4.0.1 does have some additional documenation you need to read to make sure you site is setup for ,Net 2.0.

1) Click site Admin menu option.
2) Click Free .Net Plug-In under the ASP.Net sub menu section.

As far as speed is concern with WH4L most people mistake startup time for bad hosting.  If your site is low traffic, then you need to monitor the site with someone like host-tracker.com to monitor the site so eliminate the startup time (JIT compile).  You can take a look at my site PCResources, LLC and check out my monitoring stats (99+ uptime, and around 1.5 seconds average page load).  For $10.00 a month that is not bad.  If you have outage problems ask them to put your site in a different app pool and if that does not work ask them to move you to another server.  I have done both at one time or another and when I have had problems and have not had any problems since.

I will be glad to help you get DNN installed on WH4L, withtout using thier automated install. Sometime hosters automated installs do limit some of the functionality of DNN.  We have seen this big time with GoDaddy, but I am sure the problem with uploading skins is the same type of deal.  I can also help you get setup on host-traker also.
