Just as the error message suggests by changing the web.config line from:

<customErrors mode="RemoteOnly"/>
to <customErrors mode="Off"/> you will get a meaningful error message.

One of the most common problems when moving an installation is ensuring that you enter the portalalias in the portalalias table of your database either manually or with the admin-->Site Settings page of the installation before you publish it to your site. Also be sure to edit your connection string in your web.config file to point to the new online database.

Good luck,

Mike

I compared your web.config with my running solutions web.config. I found two <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" /> entries (maybe copied) but it seems you've no database for your DNN installation. How did you install your DNN - as you told me your starting over VS2005; is it the starter kit or the source code package?

That first screen only told me that pixl started it over a remote client.
I must agree that the connection string is not configured and probably (worse) the machine key was not copied from the old version.

I don't know what went wrong the last time I tried to change it. However today I got it working changing the web.config to display the error. This is what I get now:

Server Error in '/' Application.

Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level.  This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

Where is your web.config stored (relative root to your DNN folder)?
