The 4.5.3 release starter kit shows that it's a .zip file, not a .vsi file. I renamed the extensions for kicks and giggles, then installed it. It installed without errors, but does not show up in My Template Websites section of the "New Website" section of VS2005. Any helps?

Try unzipping it to a temporary directory  and then installing it from there.   That is what I did.

As stated in other threads sometimes the module downloads as a zip file but it really is a vsi file. Renaming and installing is just what you needed to do.

I have also installed the starter kit without getting a template in VS2005 from a downloaded vsi file. I think this is a different problem altogether. I think the problem is that I changed the drive and directory of my documents directory and the install wants to put it in the original location.

I had done that, and the templates didn't show up. I restarted Visual Studio (a couple times) then it showed up. thanks!
