Just to note on this - I wouldn't like users to be able to unsubscribe from private roles they have subscribed or been subscribed to.

There are reasons they are in this role which I use for changing the way the website works for them.  If they are to be able to unsubscribe themselves it should be optionally enabled.

Optionally enabling is a pretty good idea.

You're right, in some cases they should not have the possibility to unsubscribe (today possible by declaring the role as private!), but in some cases it could be illegal to prohibit this. E.g. a user subscribes to a monthly newsletter with costs. The fee has to be paid on a monthly base. Then the user must have the chance to unsubscribe.
