How can i disable a parent menu item?

I need the horizontal menu to work as the admin menu works, if you have noticed, when you click the admin menu, nothing happens, it just show the submenus

Also, id like to know if there is any way to add menu items without adding pages, for example

Types

   Type 1

   Type 2

Type 1 and Type 2 will be pages, but Types shall do nothing if a click it, and if posible, i dont want to need to add a page named Types. Type 1 and Type 2 will display the appropiate page when clicked

I'll appreciate any help or comments

Thank you

You need to add a page named Types but disable it in the page settings.
