This may well be an embarassingly newbie question but...

1) I will be developing a new DNN site (v4.5.3) on my local machine including some modules of my own - the site with have several sub-portals and a fairly detailed security model to control visitor's access.

2) When done I will need to deploy this to a live server over which I have complete control.

3) What is the best way to deploy an entire DNN site including content, data etc?  I did have a play trying to export each portal and sub-portal as a template and rebuilding it on the live machine in a clean DNN instance but not sure this is the right way to go about it.

Can anyone point me at a best practice guide for such deployment and huge thanks in advance?

Kevin

Personally I would backup the file system and the database and deploy both to your production server. You'll want to modify the PortalAliases before you move the site though to include the new Aliases for the production URLs.
