Hi,

After trawling through this forum and the ASP.NET forums I am still having problems with DNN AD Authentication.

I have read through various posts, step by steps, with partial success.

I have managed to get basic windows authentication working, however roles are not being synchronised and when Windows authentication is selected in the web.config I am prompted with a windows authentication dialog.

I have been through the "Quick AD Auth run down - What works for me" post by kc9900.

Is my problem with the role sychronisation down to using forms authentication? And if so, does anyone have any suggestions for persuading the windows authentication to work?

Thanks,

Joe.

This is related to the permissions setting on the files on your server - IIS is not using anonymous authentication (or it failed because the IUSR_account lacks rights on the files in your portal.)  When you log into that dialog with an account in the access list, do you get authenticated to the portal?

There is a known issue with AD groups with more than one word not syncing here http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=2308 and it is marked as a minor bug, currently unassigned.  Also, the sych will only happen the first time you log in and if your AD password changes. (http://support.dotnetnuke.com/issue/ViewIssue.aspx?id=2309 and it is listed as a major bug)

I was talking bollo about this one, upon trying to login with windows authentication enabled in the web.config I just get returned to the home page, but never logged in. ?

Can you/anyone confirm that we should be changing the authentication method in the web.config file.

As a side note, I'm working with DNN 4.0.1.

Thanks for the links, I have seen a number of posts referring to some issues with the AD groups. However I tried using roles without spaces and they still weren't sync'd even on the first authentication attempt.

I am also using Windows 2000 mixed mode on a 2003 DC, does the effect the configuration at all?

Thanks,

Joe.

What is the problem you're having Amit? The previous posts in this thread are three years old and the AD code has changed significantly since then.

As for your comment that DNN should provide perfect code for you..... I know I'd love to and I'm sure the core architects would love to but let's be realistic here. There's no way I can code the AD provider for every possible scenario simply because there's no way for me to have the infrastructure for every possible scenario so that I can test it.
