That looks good.  Keep in mind that you need one visit to the page before PageBlaster will cache it, after that first request then it should be really fast on the next request.

Yes, getting rid of modules you are not using will help in the initial startup time (the time it takes after a site has been idle for 20 minutes or so).

I have not heard of any issues with the core blog module and PageBlaster.  One thing you can do to eliminate a PageBlaster caching problem is to do a CTRL+Refresh for IE or a SHIFT+Refresh for FF.
That will invalidate the cache but not turn off compression. If you want to exclude the path with your blog page you could test it that way too.

In EditEntry.ascx, line 21, ResourcêKey instead of ResourceKey. :)

I've been blogging like a champ and it just made its way in there?  That's too deep for me to understand, but nonetheless, I am back up and running.
