My issue was that I was using a third party login module to simplify AD connection.  I have the choice of using an exceptional module that eases the use of AD or using the redirect facility and the redirect comes a poor second.  I won't place the Login module in a negative light by mentioning it here since is it an excellent module and I don't want to disadvantage the developer.  I will notify the developer so he can correct the problem if there is a way of doing so but be aware that you may need to make the same tradeoff as I am in this type of scenario.
