Hi,

I purchased the KBDNN module with source code. I need someone to clarify something for me.

When I unzip the module package, I can see the source files, no problem.
When I install the source module on my portal, it works fine. When I open my DotNetNuke solution file in VS2005.NET I notice that the source files are not there for this particular module? Surely this is not right?

The next thing I did was unzip the source package and opened the source file in VS.NET, Did my editing, saved my changes, zipped the module package and installed it in my portal. None of the changes i made to the source code showed up. I even deleted every single line of code from the source file, zipped it and installed it in my portal, and wouldn't you know it, the module still works fine!

Somehow the source files in this module package is not part of the solution??? if that makes any sence?? The changes I make to the .ascx files obviously does take affect, but none of the changes that I make to the .ascx.cs files have any affect whatsoever.

I compared this behaviour to other source modules I have, and they work fine, edit the .ascx.cs files and the changes are evident.

Can someone please help me try and figure out what's wrong with this module. Maybe someones come accross this sort of behaviour before? Please any suggestions will help, since customizing this module is integral to our business.

If you want I can even mail the module to whomever feels like taking a look at it.

Kind Regards

Julian

Let's take this step by step.

1. I don't think your DotNetNuke solution file is going to know that you installed a version of a module that includes source code. This depends on how the KBDNN people packaged the source.

2. If the module came with a standalone installable version, install that on another portal. See if there are code files in DesktopModules\KBDNN and App_code\KBDNN. I'm guessing that there won't be.

If there aren't, then this is a compiled module. To see your changes, you'll have to compile it and replace the existing dll's. See the following pages:

http://www.adefwebserver.com/DotNetNukeHELP/DNN_PackageModule/Default.htm
http://www.dmbcllc.com/Articles/WebDevelopment/DotNetNukePAwASPNET20/tabid/260/Default.aspx

3. Unless you purchased a module that has a license permitting redistribution, NEVER send somebody the source code.

I'm sure others will chime in with other tips and advice. Good luck.

No luck :(

After all this time and money wasted, and all the favours I've called in from our local DNN usergroup, nobody could get this thing to work the way it should.

Thanks for all your help though.

Julian

Drake, I am here to give you a silly answer

Have you asked the guys, from whom you have purchased this Module-with-Source ?

I am sure, you would have, but just in case ...

And if you have, what did they say, about this issue ?
