I would like my users to be able to view some Adobe Captivate videos from DNN, but am unsure if it can be done. Here is the situation:

  • Captivate can publish video files in two ways:
    • As a single .EXE file that displays in its own window OR
    • as a group of four files (2 .HTM files, 1 .SWF file, and 1 .JS file) that display in a browser after one of the .HTM files is opened.
  • When working with the demo DNN system, I am unable to upload either configuration without getting a message telling me that the file type (.EXE, .HTM, and .JS) is restricted. Here is the error message: "The File MicrosoftButtonChange.htm Is A Restricted File Type. Valid File Types Include ( *. swf, *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.jpe, *.gif, *.bmp, *.png, *.doc, *.xls, *.ppt, *.pdf, *.txt, *.xml, *.xsl, *.css, *.zip ). Please Contact Your Hosting Provider If You Need To Upload A File Type Which Is Not Supported."

My questions are:

  • When my company loads the new version of DNN on our servers will I be able to get it to upload these restricted file types and if yes, how?
  • Would it be better to upload and allow users to download the single .EXE file or the set of four files?

Thanks for any insights you can provide.
