I was happy to see the adsense module - but then I got to thinking - why is there no facility to add  your account key for the search tool

what version are you using of dotnetnuke?   I thought this was corrected in 4.5.4 ..

That makes complete sense -

I see that it is the dotnetnuke corporation that is making the revenue off of all the search clicks that go through without being this setting changed - is this ethical?? -

It could at least be presented somewhere that this is the situation - If this had been obvious I would not have an issue but I have to confess that I find the current technique distasteful and have to question how legitimate it is - hardly in the spirit of open source !! In fact it is a bit of a trojan

You cant tell me that it is'nt possible to allow for this setting to be entered in the set up page for the host -  and what do Google think

The link mentioned above clarifies that both DNN and any sites that alter the set up code are in breach of the Google TOS
