Hello, I'm pretty new to the web development scene, but some people I'm working with would like to use DNN to create our own custom program. I was wondering - what's the difference between the Source and the other versions? I've tried about four different tutorials explaining how to install it, but so far, I've had the most luck (i.e. least problems) with the other (Starter Kit and Setup) installation versions. Also, one of those tutorials stated that for installing the Source Version, Visual Web Developer wouldn't work, only Visual Studio 2005. This may be a minor problem because most of the computers available to us are only equipped with Visual Studio 2003. Is it still possible to install [the Source version]?

Hi

If you are a newbie then you will not need the source version. The source version is if you want to make changes to the core code, which trust me you will not want to do

Hope that helps

Hey,

Thanks for the reply, but my boss is insisting on trying the source version. My current objective isn't to mess around with the core code myself, only to get it installed, which I've had problems with; I'm going to leave the core code work to others. On a tangent, can someone explain to me what a Web Application Project (WAP) is good for? I understand that it's "a project file based structure where all code in the project is compiled into a single assembly", but that doesn't really tell me much about what would better suit our purposes - to try to make our own module, or to try and create our own WAP. The relevancy to my question is that the Source version is apparently better for the WAP, whereas the starterkit is sufficient for module development. Any insight would be appreciated.
