Greetings,

My Question: How do I install DotNetNuke on my remote server?

I'm a super newbie to DotNetNuke and only understand the conecpt of ASP.NET. I think I downloaded all the files I need, but don't know where to go from there. I tried going through some online help, but w/o luck.. I watched the video, but even that assumes you are already in the right spot.

Hi

the basic installation instructions are in a text file as part of the download. i would recommend that you install and get familair with DNN locally before you try to install on your remote server.

Here is a tip: i suggest that you download the free Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express and install. Then download the the starter kit for DNN. Run the starter kit by clicking on the .vsi file. this will install the template into VWD.

Open visual web developer express and go to file > New Website, you will see a list of the templates installed. Click on the Dotnet nuke starter template and you site will start to install. Then follow the instructions on the front page.

Once you have done this you site should install and the front page load in your browser

Hope that helps

Wow, that sounds great. I didn't know that Microsoft Visual Web Developer Express could be free. I'll give it a whirl. THANKS!

Hi

I am wondering how you are trying to launch your website. It would be best at first if you use the built in web server in VWD called Cassini?

Open the defualt page in the root of the website. Make sure it is in source view and then go to file>view in browser. And see if that works. You should get a little bubble appear in the system tray on the right corner of your desltop

Give that a go
