I copied the files over.  Replaced differences betwen web.config (4.5.3) and (4.5.5-Release.config).  Opened the browser, the screen showed the update, afterwards it said it was completed successfully.  Now I can't log in to either my host or admin accounts.  I cannot find a related issue nor how to reset a password manually.

Did you change the Machinekey values in the new webconfig to match the old values?

Did you backup the files before you upgraded? If so you should be able to find the machinekey values that hold the decryption information

Yes I copied over the machine keys.  I renamed the web.config before I copied.

While waiting for this to post, I did a search in these forums and found an older thread which talked about creating a new user and copying over the password.  I opened the database in SQL Server Management Express, but didn't change anything cause I didn't feel comfortable...so I closed SSME

Now the site works fine.

So the upgrade was successful, just for some reason I couldn't log in "immediately".

As mentioned above you will want to make sure that you copied over the machine key values.

Also, you will want to make sure that you copied over the "InstallationDate" application setting as if that is missing it is possible that the application will change the machine keys.

If you are still unable to login you can forcefully reset the passwords if you can register a new user account.  I have the SQL Scripts on my site to show to to perofmr that type of operation.
