While I was trying to edit web.config in order to make AD authentification up-and-running, I got this error message:

Error: Edit Announcements is currently unavailable.

atreides,

What modifications were you making to the web config? Did you happen to make any changes to the control for Edit Announcements? The error message is pretty explicit in that there is a server tag that should have the attribute runat="server" but does not. The first course of action (I would think) would be to track down the control that does not have the well formed server tag....

the only modifications I've made, are uncommenting the line for AD authentification:

"

- <httpModules>

<!--

add name="Authentication" type="DotNetNuke.HttpModules.AuthenticationModule, DotNetNuke.HttpModules.Authentication" /
  --> "

Is not for the first time when I'm doing this, since I'm still trying to make AD authentification work, even for folders and files, not only recognizing the user.The problem is that even if I change the web.config file with the back-up one, is still the same.

It is possible to get this message from "cache"?Even so, what triggered the error message?

atreides,

I don't believe that the message could be coming from the cache, as the cache should be cleared when the site re-starts. which it is doing each time you modify the web config.

What i suggest is navigating in the file system to \DesktopModules\Announcements\EditAnnouncements.ascx and making sure that every runat="" attribute is in the correct form.  While there is a chance the error message you are seeing is irrelevant, you might want to just rule that out first.  the correct format for every runat="" attribute is runat="server"

hope that helps,

Ian
