I’m having a strange custom module development/oversight error. I followed AdefWebservers guide to make a guestbook, and I’ve been using a striped down version of the guestbook as kinda a template so that I don’t have to keep doing the basics over and over again. I wasn’t using the business controller so I striped out the actual business controller vb file. Well, I forgot about it and I left the business controller line in the .DNN file and made the module everything worked fine didn’t get any errors on the page, life was good. Well, today I rebooted my server then when I looked in the log file I had an error when DNN started as a result of that line in the .DNN file. So, I thought to myself no problem delete the line recompile and reboot again… nope, still got the error. Next, I noticed that the business controller was still defined in the module settings under the host tab. I changed it there, rebooted and still got the error. Next I thought I would remove the module definition and then reinstall it from the new .dnn file that doesn’t have the business controller definition, rebooted the computer, still have the same error. Now I’m getting irritated. So next, I tried deleting the asp.net temporary cache, rebuilding the website and reboot the server… same error. So now I’m here. Anyone seen this before? If every reference in the module definition is gone where is this being stored? This error only comes up when DotNetNuke starts not when the page is opened. The page works fine, so I guess it’s not a huge deal I just hate having errors on a development machine if I can help it. They distract from all the errors that result from my programming .

This is the error…

If you are using Dynamic compilation then there should be some code in the App_Code folder corresponding to your module and/or the respective registration in the web.config file. Delete both of them.

Thanks for the quick reply, but there is nothing in the App_Code folder or the web.config file that correspond to the module in question.

 Thanks, Nathan Rover

the fastest thing to do would be to delete the module and reisntall the version that doesn't specify a business controller.

Thanks for the reply, but that was the second thing I tried when I first noticed the error. That’s why I think this is such a strange error… If I remove the module definition, and all the code files from the project. Delete the asp.net temporary cache. Recompile the website. Reboot the server, I still get the error… I’m asking how is this possible? Something, somewhere, has got to still be holding on to the reference but I have removed everything I can think of.

 Thanks, Nathan Rover
