I have different DNN installations for different clients.  Some are running 4.5.x while others are running 4.4.1.  All are with the same hosting provider.

The news module (03.01.01) is not working in the 4.5.x installations.  So far, I have received two different error messages:

First:
Could Not Connect To http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/rss/ncaa/news. You Should Verify The Source Address Is Valid And That Your Hosting Provider Has Configured Their Proxy Server Settings Correctly.

Second:
News Feed Is Not Available At This Time. Error message:Request for the permission of type 'System.Net.WebPermission, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

Regarding the first error message, that URL works fine in my 4.4.1 installations with the 03.01.01 module.  In fact, I've tried a number of different news URLs in my 4.4.1 sites.  They all work.  None of them work in my 4.5.x installations with the 03.01.01 module.

Regarding the second message, I don't know.  Does that have anything to do with DNN 4.5.x and/or the news module?

I'm not the only one running into this problem.

In another thread, seand03 described the same phenomenon.  He/she tried putting the URL in I-frame to test the connectivity of the server.  It worked.  I tried the same thing.  It worked.  But I-frame is a sorry substitute for the news module.

I have posted my dilemma in other forums at other sites.  They are at a loss as to what might be happening.  That is why I'm coming to "the source" [laugh].

I've been given the first solid clue in sleuthing this problem in another thread (the one above.)  I will contact my hosting provider again and post my findings here.

Update:

The first error message above only occurs when I'm logged into the DNN installation (as a host).  The second one appears once I've logged out and the site is "public."

Hi,

I'm not quite sure how we're going to narrow this down but the second error is a 'trust' error. I'll need to do more research on this issue.

Thanks.  Your post under "unable to connect" gave me the heads up that I was looking for.
