Can anyone recommend a file manager module that allows the users to delete files they have uploaded. I have dozens of content owners uploading documents and pictures via the standard way (usually through the text/html or the links module), but they have no way of deleting their files. I am running out of space and I can't give them admin access to get to the file manager.

Any solutions (low co$t)

I should also mention that each role has it's own folder to upload files to.

DNN has some glaring holes in it.. and that is a big one.... it's a one-way system for content creation. Developers don't seem to like giving users access to delete stuff, so it all adds up to a CMS nightmare.

Your options are:

TKFileManager - Ten bucks off Snowcovered. Straight copy of core file manager. Would be great if only it wasn't so buggy. The developers are useless. It took several tickets and a complaint to Snowcovered to even get a single peep out of them.. and nothing more since. Another fly-by-night developer.

Averageous Access Manager - One hundred and ten bucks!! off Snowcovered. I bought it.. I really had no choice because I don't want an ever-expanding portal system. The first release didn't really work at all, but the second release is installed and I'll be checking it out in the next day or two. It's a lot fancier than a straight copy of the file manager. It looks like it will let you map anything on your server to a user.. even stuff outside the portal. I haven't tried that though. The developer seems peppy and has been around on and off for a while. The killer feature I wanted above standard file management for users, is thumbnail display of images. I asked him about it before I bought it and he said it was going to be done.. so hurrah

I've tried everything else and not found anything workable. If anyone else knows of anything similar do add it to the ticket.

And core team - What's the problem with letting non-admins manage their files? Why not just make the file manager available as a module and let the admin configure it same as everything else.

I came to the realization that it's just not practical to sit down with the content owners/page admins and log in as admin, go to the file manager and ask if can I delete this file? Can I delete that? What about this? Hey do you still use that file? You have duplicate images, which should I delete?..... I have over a hundred people uploading files.

I agree that maybe pulling it out of the core and putting it into a module would be great. Also thumbnailed images would be killer. It can be hard to tell by file name (especially if the images come from a digital camera).

$110 is more than my budget.

I checked out the adverageous demo and wasn't impressed with the interface. Not for $110 anyways.

I am using Speerio File Manager here on my work installations and it works somewhat well...
