Good day all,

My hosting with GoDaddy is up at the end of September, and I am not sure if I want to renew.  My other option would be to host DNN myself, which is really what this question is about - can a person with basically no experience in using a server, not to mention installing and running DNN, install and run it successfully and without a lot of trouble?  Or will its maintenance take up as much time as the running of the actual website? If the answer is "host elsewhere" then can anyone suggest a better solution then GoDaddy?  And how can I take my existing, but belonging to GoDaddy, site with me should I decide to host w' someone else?  Many thanks.

P.S. I wont bother mentioning that I am new to DNN, w' only little time available to learn about it properly. sigh.

I am also looking for US based DNN hosting at the moment.  From what I hear, GoDaddy would not be the best option.  They may be competitive, but they aren't DNN specialists.  So far, I am considering:

DiscountASP.net

I have also seen mentioned here:

Sure you could do it yourself, but unless you are particularly interested in and have time for the technology, you are probably better off finding a DNN specialist that can handle the hosting for you.

I have several DNN sites hosted at discountasp.net and like them very much. Support is email only and they do a great job with that. Adding new domain pointers is $15 each. They are not the cheapest but I have learned the hard way that is not the most important thing! I wasted dozens of hours trying to get godaddy to deal with DNN and ditched that idea.

Thanks,

Will

I personally use 3Essentials and have had very good luck with them, the price is right and the service is better than average.

I have heard very good things about www.powerdnn.com however they were just too pricey for what I have to host... (Too many domains...and a mix of DNN/non DNN sites)

On my blog site I have a tutorial on how to migrate a DNN site to 3Essentials, it is even linked to by the 3Essentials support team via their Knowledge base.

As for hosting it yourself, you would have to have the hardware and a proper internet connection (with sufficient upload abilities) to host it on your own.  I would say that if you are getting along on GoDaddy now that the costs for that will FAR exceed your budget.
