I've been experiencing alot of slow down latley and managed to use the sql profiler to trace the problem down to the scheduler.  It takes between 70% and 100% of all 4 processors.  This was slowing everything down and after noticing this I disabled the scheduler then began to review the files in the database to try and narrow it down.  I found 14,000 records in the serach words table and 45,000 records in the searchitemword table.  Is this the cause of my problems?

make sure, the scheduler tasks are not running too freequently - especially starting a task befor the previous execution has terminated can cause a lot of trouble.

Is there a proper way to re-index the entire site?  I think I had corrupted indexes.

delete all entries (see http://www.deutschnetnuke.de/tabid/134/Default.aspx) and re-index.
