I have a shared hosting web space with a MS SQL Database and am trying to set up DNN 4.0.2 with ASP.NET 2.0.  I have copied the files up to the server and created the database.  I have also set the connection string in the web.config file.  When I browse to the Default.aspx page, I get the following error:

DotNetNuke Configuration Error

Could not find a part of the path 'd:\hosting\markluchauer\Config\Backup_20061261645\web_.config'.Access to the path 'd:\hosting\markluchauer\web.config' is denied.Access to the path 'd:\hosting\markluchauer\SiteUrls.config' is denied.

DotNetNuke has extensive file upload capabilities for content, modules, and skins. These features require custom security settings so that the application is able to create and remove files in your website.

Using Windows Explorer, browse to the root folder of the website ( C:\DotNetNuke by default ). Right-click the folder and select Sharing and Security from the popup menu ( please note that if you are using Windows XP you may need to Enable Simple File Sharing before these options are displayed ). Select the Security tab. Add the appropriate User Account and set the Permissions.

If using Windows 2000 - IIS5
- the {Server}\ASPNET User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website

If using Windows 2003 - IIS6
- the NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE User Account must have Read, Write, and Change Control of the virtual root of your website

After talking with tech support, they weren't able to give this account access and I can't seem to be able to do it through the Hosting Manager software that came with my hosted space.  How can I give access to this account and how should I proceed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

I figured out a workaround myself.  I created a subdirectory through my host that was able to be set as a root directory and given full control for the ASPNET user account.  I then installed DotNetNuke in that subdirectory on my hosted site and it was able to build fine.  Then, I set the domain forwarding to point to the default.aspx page in my DotNetNuke directory.  Hopefully, the DNS will propogate the forwarding of my domain soon so that I can actually test this to see if it works.

I'd still be interested to hear any other solutions you guys might have for this one.  Cheers!

That is the right approach.

Some hosters won't give write access to the root of a hosting account and this is the only workaround as the app needs write access.

Funny thing is now, I get an infinite loop trying to load my site.

Check out http://www.havefunteaching.com

I have it forwarded to the Default.aspx file in a subdirectory, but it seems to reload the page over and over, then just quits.  I guess I just don't understand Domain forwarding like I thought that I did.  Any suggestions?
