I am in the process of copying our DNN 4.5.4 site from GoDaddy to 3Essentials.

I got a backup of the DB on GoDaddy and had them restore it at 3Essentials.  However, the restored database is 190MB and the limit for the Deluxe Business plan at 3Essentials is only 100MB.  I've already cleared the site log, schedule history log, and error log.

Any advice on how I can prune my DB down?  I don't want to just start removing records without knowing the consequences.

I was surprised 3Essentials has such a low limit.. before I removed the log records the DB was well over 250MB on GoDaddy with a cheap shared hosting account without a limit problem.  Perhaps 3Essentials isn't right for us.  Our site doesn't have an unusual amount of data.

Thanks!

Ensure that you do a backup and truncate the database transaction log.

Providers such as godaddy NEVER seem to truncate that log and the database grows to VERY large proportions.

Thanks Mitchel.  I did try this and the size didn't change.

I tried these commands:

BACKUP LOG <database name> WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY

DBCC SHRINKDATABASE (<database name>, 10)

Intersting,

Now, I guess I would use something like this Determining SQL Server Table Sizes to determine exactly where all of your space is being eaten.  I would also try just using the sp_spaceused command to see what the utlization is for the data and logs.

Even with a large bloating due to external data that I have in my database for http://www.icgposrtals.com and http://www.mitchelsellers.com I am only at a hair over 30Mb in database size..

Thanks again Mitchel, great info.  I was able to create the proc, but for some reason don't get any results on "myLittleAdmin", tried the same query at another location with Query Analyzer and it works great, not sure what the deal is.

Anyhow, today the DB is showing 25MB!  I guess it hadn't updated the size on their status pages yet.

You've been a huge help, thanks again.
