Hi all

I want to ask a few things:

1. How to merge 2 threads in DNN forums?

2. How to move a single or more posts from a thread to another? We can only move the whole thread.

3. How to move more than one thread in one go? Like if I want to move 10 threads, how can I move all of them in a single attempt? There is no option for bulk move.

4. How to lock threads? Even if we select "Lock post" checkbox in composing posts window, members can post in the thread.

5. "Aggregated" forum doesnt show "Pinned" threads. Is there any setting to allow it to show new posts in Pinned threads?

6. Is there any module to add "Reporting" feature in forum, so that members can report the bad posts to admins?

7. Is there any way to allow codes for smilies in posts? we can only select smilies from the smiley list and codes like :), ;), :D doesnt work. So is there any way to use such codes?

I know there are a lot questions but please reply as soon as possible. I'll be very thankful to you all.

Thank you.

There is no 'merging' available in current version or the next version.

Momving a single post is only available in version 4.4.2 or greater (in release tracker) and is referred to as "Split" ing.

No versions can move more than a single thread at a time.

Lock threads are available by editing the original post. (Below text editor)

Pinned threads never show in aggregated.

Post reporting is available in version 4.4.2.

There is no smiley code available since you can use the smiley button of the text editor.

Hi Crispy

First thanks a lot for your replies. It was really helpful and I appreciate it. Now if you don't ind, please tell me following:

1. As you said Pinned threads are not shown in Aggregated section. Has it been designed intentionally? Is there any way to show Pinned threads in Aggregated section? Most of the members visit Aggregated section only for new posts because its easy and they have not to open each section to see new posts. So it'll be great if we can show Pinned threads in Aggregated section.

2. Regarding to smilies, a few browsers Opera, Safari doesnt show the toolbar in composing posts window, so those members can't use smilies in their posts and its easy to use codes for smilies in stead of selecting them from the toolbar. So can we use those codes for smilies by any way?

I really appreciate everyone who read these problems and reply it.

Thanks in advance.

1 - Short answer, no. This was an enhancement integrated just over a year ago that was done in a way to minimize changes to the code base to make it happen (ie. quick last minute addition, was actually implemented by Shaun). Not until later, probably 6 months ago or so was this really brought to anyones attention as a problem. That said, this is not an easy change. It requires a new custom stored procedure to be called which, at this time, does not exist. This also requires lots of attention to the forum thread view. Because of this, this is a high risk change and one I am not ready to make until I have fully reviewed all risks involved. (We also have to worry about major changes like this having an impact on performance)

2 - Right now, not exactly. My thoughts around this are the provider itself should be ironed out for those browsers. When using codes for smilies to be parsed and replaced, you have to concerns: Impact on posting performance (since post body has to be parsed x amount of times to replace code w/ image path) and also unintended results from post. (showing smiley image when not intended).

However, if you do wish for this to occur you can go into the word filter and have the word to replace set for :) and have it replaced w/ a path to the image (ie.

Thanks again Crispy for your reply.

1. Thats ok. Its not a big problem, I just wanted to allow it. But as you said it'll be very difficult to implement it, so we can let it unchanged.

2. Thats an awesome idea. I'll try it and let you know.

Thanks again for your time and reply.
