Greetings,

I'm setting up a texture and model website for numerous 3d-game engines.
I will be selling texture packs and model packs via my dnn website. Up to this point DNN has
been an amazing piece of work, handleing all aspects of a small e-commerce bussiness with great easy

Im certain what Im trying to do is allowed also, just I havent been able to figure it out.
Ive watched and read all the tutorials avaiable to DNN, ive bought and read the DNN for Dummies book ( awesome book btw).
Ive searched google and all other sources of dnn sites for this information but nothing has turned up.

With that said,  Ive setup my e-store and tied in paypal to grant access roles based on each product thatis purchased.
In turn i have a 'Customers' section on the website that lists links based on access of the user. In these sections
i have an area for each product on the website, in this area is updates, product downloads news and more.
My question is, how do I protect the customer areas from outside linking and search bots. Normally on a unix server
i'd simply .htaccess the directory and add the uer name and password to the htaccess. But now that I am automated
with dnn I dont think this is the road to take.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

if you restrict public access by not granting permissions in page settings to unauthenticated or all users, search engines will not be able to index the pages.

That's excellent news, I tested this and also noticed that dnn does some hash numbering to the upload files, this is an added security bonus i believe!

Setting up permnissions via the DNN file manager won't be needed then?  simply just add 'Customer Product' security role to the page the goods reside on is all that is required? How awsome is DotNetNuke.

please note, that only secure folders are protected against being scanned by crawlers, I suggest to use DNN  File Manager to create a "secure folder in file system" for sinsitive files. Role permissions in DNN File Manager are also used to control access to files per roles and individual users - either download or upload files to a folder.
