I seem to be flogging a dead horse here.
I have created an album and have tried to upload JPGs to it using the Add File dialog. My files appear in the dialog in Pending Files; does the module create the thumbnails, otherwise how are the sources and thumbnails related?.
The dialogs had created a folder in /Portal Root/Gallery/403/ with my album name and empty sub-folders /_ source and /_thumbs.
I have tried uploading my sources and thumbnails directly to these sub-folders in the hope that the Gallery would pick them up - it didn't.
Could someone explain without being too technical, how the Gallery reads in the files from these folders.
Maybe then I can suss out where I am going wrong.

I had set up my Gallery module in the Content Pane of a Text/HTML module.
Probably a bad move - the Gallery module keeps crashing the Text/HTML module.
Since I maintain the site for a parent organization I have deleted the Gallery module and will keep my hand-crafted HTML gallery in the Text/HTML module.
Next I will try setting up a new Gallery under a blind main-menu option, get it working and then move it to the Bottom Pane of the Text/HTML page

Sorry about that. Maintenance is what you're after. Each Album in Gallery uses three folders: source, thumbs and album. All three should have a file, so synch will try to synch the contents to match each other aprpriately. Just check which ones you want to synch in each album.
