I need to export the GridView control data to .xls file.  I found sample from web but they seem not to work for dnn modules since it requires the GridView control to be placed on <form> server tag.  I appreciate any response...

string attachment = "attachment; filename=Reports.xls";"content-disposition", attachment);"application/ms-excel";StringWriter sw = new StringWriter();HtmlTextWriter htw = new HtmlTextWriter(sw);

Response.ClearContent();

Response.AddHeader(

Response.ContentType =

GridView1.RenderControl(htw);   Error thrown here saying HttpException not handled at the user code. And the error message is "Control 'id1_GridView1' of type 'GridView' must be placed inside a form tag with runat=server."

Response.Write(sw.ToString());

Response.End();

Where do you have the gridview declared?  Do you have it placed in a module?

try this bit of code.  Works very well for what you are talking about.

just put an asp button (in this case called button1) in your module,  my dataview is called 1stContent and i have already declared the bind to the datasource in pageload.  Let me know if this works for you.

Protected Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click"False"

lstContent.DataBind()

Response.ContentType =

Dim tw As New IO.StringWriter()Dim hw As New System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter(tw)Dim frm As HtmlForm = New HtmlForm()"application/vnd.ms-excel"

Response.AddHeader(

Response.Charset =

"content-disposition", "attachment;filename=test.xls")""

EnableViewState =

False

Controls.Add(frm)

frm.Controls.Add(lstContent)

frm.RenderControl(hw)

Response.Write(tw.ToString())

Response.End()

lstContent.AllowPaging =

"True"

lstContent.DataBind()

End Sub

lstContent.AllowPaging =
