Hi to all,

just putting down all the necessary steps to add SSL support for User Login and Registration, by just modifying the DNN 4.5.4 (or greater) user interface.

1. Login as admin

2. Tick for the 'SSL Enabled' and 'SSL Enforced' options on the Site settings\Advanced settings\SSL settings

3. Create a new Login page,

tick for the 'Secure' option on the Page settings\Advanced settings\Other settings,

un-tick on the 'Include In Menu' option or the Page settings\Basic settings\Page details,

and finally, add the Account Login module.

4. Create a new Registration page,

tick for the 'Secure' option on the Page settings\Advanced settings\Other settings,

un-tick on the 'Include In Menu' option or the Page settings\Basic settings\Page details and

finally, add the User Account module.

5. On the Site settings\Advanced settings\SSL settings,

for the 'Login Page' select your custom Login page (from step 3) and

for the 'User Page' select your custom Registration page (from step 4)

That's all.

No you have all the DNN logic for the Login and Registration pages, with the additional functionality of SSL, without writting a single line of code.

regards

I upgraded to 4.5.5 and followed the instructions above, however, then I access the login page it still does not redirect to https.  Any thoughts on what I am overlooking?

Steps taken:

Upgraded to 4.5.5

Admin\site settings\advanced settings\ssl settings - checked both boxes

Created new login page and added the account login module

page settings\advanced settings\other settings - checked secured

Back to Admin\site settings\advanced settings\ - changed Login Page to Login(login page I created).

Thanks for the assistance.

Bryan

hi again,

just note, that in steps 3 and 4 there is a typing error ('on' instead of 'or'):

un-tick on the 'Include In Menu' option on the Page settings\Basic settings\Page details.

Also, note, that if you un-tick the 'Include In Menu' page option, then the page becomes unreachable from the menu, so, you should use the admin\Pages menu to modify its settings at desing time.

regards

Hi Bryan,

seems like you have followed the steps described and the page should be redirected to https.

The only thing that comes in mind is whether you have configured your IIS correctly from your IIS manager (meaning, enabling the SSL support, adding a self signed certificate for testing purposes and binding the certificate and the https requests to your web site via an IP port).

Thanks for the reply.  Okay, I previously implemented a root certificate server, an intermiedate cert server and a issuing server.  I issued a cert and installed it on IIS.  I was previously using java code to redirect to https and then back to http.  This worked, but I did get an error the the certificate root could not be verified.  I started to have trouble when I implemented the human friendly Url rewrite tool.  I was hoping  that the 4.5.5 upgrade would resolve this, which I still am unable to get to work.

Does anyone know if my certificate installation in IIS could cause the problem or what I need to do to fix the Url rewrite tool to at least get the java code working again?

Thanks,

Bryan
