in Windws Explorer, right click on the DotNetNuke installation directory, go to Security and add "ASPNET" user from local machine. grant add, edit and create folder permissions. Hit advanced button and force this settings for all descending folders and files.

If I see someone else respond to a post by saying "check your permissions", I'm going to pull all my hair out.  There are 100s if not 1000s of posts on the internet talking about permissions in DNN.  If that's all you have to contribute, don't bother.  No need to beat a dead horse.

Between Microsoft bugs and the total lack of usabilty of DNN my life has become a nightmare!  Yeah, I can get an install to work but after three weeks of trying to run DNN from Visual Studio 2005 I wish I could wash my hands of it.

I WISH THE DNN DEVELOPERS WOULD JUST SCRIPT THE DAMN DATABASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

80% of the problems with DNN seem to come from people not being able to get past the install. JUST SCRIPT THE DAMN DATABASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

The solution to this issue, which is over a year old, is to set the default document in IIS to "Default.aspx".  Besides, the database is scripted now.  And if you read the DNN installation docs you'll find that running it from Visual Studio is not what you want to do.
